Strategic Development of the Aravalli Engine
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed a definitive contract with their joint venture, SAFHAL Helicopter Engines Pvt. Ltd., to initiate the development of the Aravalli engine. This high-power turboshaft engine, named after the ancient mountain range, is engineered for the 3,500 to 4,000 shp power class.
It will serve as the primary powerplant for HAL’s upcoming 13-ton Indian Multi-Role Helicopter and its naval variant, the Deck-Based Multi-Role Helicopter. The agreement covers the entire value chain, including design, manufacturing, supply, and long-term lifecycle support for these critical propulsion systems.
