Strategic Licensing and Investment Details
VISUfarma B.V., a Dutch subsidiary of Lupin Limited, has entered an exclusive license agreement with U.S.-based Visus Therapeutics for the proprietary ophthalmic product YUVEZZI. The deal grants VISUfarma rights for regulatory activities, marketing, and distribution across the European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland. Under the terms, VISUfarma will make a 20 million euro strategic investment in Visus or its parent through a Simple Agreement for Future Equity instrument.
Additionally, the partner is eligible for up to 55 million euro in regulatory and commercial milestone payments, alongside tiered royalties based on net sales performance once commercialization begins in the licensed territories.
Market Significance of YUVEZZI
This partnership marks a significant expansion of Lupin’s specialty care strategy in the European vision management segment. YUVEZZI is recognized as the first and only FDA-approved once-daily, dual-agent eye drop indicated for presbyopia, a condition affecting nearly 2 billion people globally. By securing these rights, Lupin aims to address unmet patient needs in the aging eye category while creating long-term growth opportunities.
The 20-year initial term per country ensures a sustained revenue stream potential from this differentiated therapy, reinforcing Lupin's leadership in the ophthalmology space across major European jurisdictions and providing access to a novel therapy for millions of patients.
Financial Position and Performance
Lupin Limited continues to demonstrate strong financial growth, reporting an annual operating revenue of ₹27,958.03 crore and a net profit of ₹5,332.84 crore. The company's quarterly revenue grew by 32.04 percent year-on-year, significantly outperforming the pharmaceutical sector average of 15.52 percent. With a market capitalization exceeding ₹1 lakh crore and a Trendlyne durability score of 80, the company maintains a robust position to fund international expansions.
This latest licensing agreement aligns with Lupin's objective to strengthen its specialty ophthalmology portfolio, which currently complements its diversified presence in generics and complex biosimilars across 15 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities globally.
