The Product — What It Is
Trastuzumab rezetecan (SHR-A1811) is a HER2-targeted first-in-class antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) designed to treat HER2-expressing platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC). This therapy combines the specificity of a monoclonal antibody with the potency of a cytotoxic drug to target cancer cells directly. Already conditionally approved in China for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and second-line breast cancer, the drug is now being evaluated for advanced gynecologic malignancies.
The Phase 3 trial is a randomized, controlled, multi-centre study that will assess efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics in diverse patient populations where existing treatment options remain limited.
Strategic Fit
The advancement of this trial aligns with Glenmark’s strategy to build a differentiated oncology pipeline for global markets. In September 2025, Glenmark entered an exclusive license agreement with Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals to develop and commercialize the asset across multiple regions. This collaboration excludes major markets like the USA and Europe but covers significant territories including India, parts of Asia, and the CIS.
This move strengthens Glenmark’s presence in the high-growth oncology segment, leveraging externally developed innovation to address critical unmet medical needs in patients with difficult-to-treat solid tumors.
Industry Context
Ovarian cancer remains a significant global health challenge, ranking as the eighth most common cancer among women. India specifically carries a heavy burden of cases and deaths, with many patients developing resistance to standard platinum-based therapies. The industry shift toward Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) reflects a growing demand for targeted therapies that offer better precision than traditional chemotherapy.
Trastuzumab rezetecan has received Breakthrough Therapy Designation for nine indications in China, underscoring the therapeutic potential of this drug class in treating various HER2-overexpressing tumors, including gastric and colorectal cancers.
