Production Commenced — What It Means
Samvardhana Motherson International Limited, through its energy arm Motherson New Energy Limited (MNEL), has operationalised its first ground-mounted captive solar project. Located in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, the 15 MWp facility is managed via its subsidiary, Onega Solar Private Limited. This milestone marks a transition from development to active power generation, specifically aimed at supplying clean energy to the company’s network of manufacturing plants within the state.
The project was executed in partnership with ib vogt, which supported land acquisition, regulatory approvals, and technical execution.
Operational and Environmental Impact
- The plant is projected to produce nearly 23.4 GWh of renewable electricity every year
- Offsets approximately 17,000 MT of CO2 emissions annually for industrial operations
- Enhances long-term energy cost visibility and provides a hedge against tariff volatility
- Strengthens energy resilience for manufacturing facilities located across Uttar Pradesh
- Establishes a foundation for scaling the company's renewable energy portfolio further
